About

About myself

I have build my first network in our university dorm in 2003 it was a horrible ad-hoc combination of 2.4 GHz WiFi uplink, switched Ethernet and weird switch/hub coax extension. I got it working and this setup served about 40 students well for couple of years.

This experience sparked in me the curiosity about how data are pushed around and how the networks work in general. This is how networking become my passion and it stayed that way through the years up until now.

Of course my experience grew over time as well along with the list of various certification as I’ve worked with various equipment including:

  • Routers and switches from Juniper, Cisco, Huawei, H3C, HP and other
  • Ethernet/IP testers from Spirent and Exfo
  • CWDM and DWDM from Huawei
  • Sandvine’s DPI
  • Firewalls from Chekcpoint, Fortinet, Juniper (SRX) and Cisco (ASA)
  • Bluecoat’s proxies
  • Linux and BSD servers, appliances and applications
  • PtP and PmP microwave radio from CBNL
  • centralized wifi systems
  • Load balancing on F5
  • and many others

My current interests revolve around  datacentre design, automation with Ansible and white-box switching. On the Linux front it is anything to do with network virtualization like network name spaces and similar.

The variety in what I do and my failing memory lead me to think that it would be a good idea to write down the notes on various little things I am working on as I found that they are usually not documented and when they are it is often not intended for what I need it for. So this is how this page come to be originally just as sort of extended memory with a bit of an afterthought of other people potentially benefiting as well.
